Do you get creative with your health? Have you ever considered the art of health?Everyone is an artist and has creative potential. But have you ever considered the art of health? Your body as a canvas which you paint, mold and texture? What might you do differently if you considered your body in those honorable terms—a piece of art awaiting crafting and nurturing? But let’s not get too airy-fairy! Your body is also a biological organism with specific scientific operations and technical workings you can’t ignore. All your systems are constantly at work, circulating and interacting to keep you alive and happy! So how then should we approach our bodies and our health if they exist in both the realm of art and science? Should we privilege one realm? Should we leave our health in the hands of the ‘universe’ and surrender all responsibility or commit ourselves solely to doctors and this age of medicalization? We believe there needs to be a balance and intimate interaction between the two realms. Doctors can provide valuable insight, but they don’t know everything! They can't! In our age of information, doctors are inundated with new facts, new medications, new research; they cannot keep up. Moreover, doctors are trained to treat what is broken. But why not try to prevent things from getting broken in the first place? Why not take a proactive approach to your own health. Work in tandem with your doctor—that's where the art of health (and the fun!) comes in. Let the great Leonardo Da Vinci influence you, as you begin to apply one of the Da Vincian Principles*: Arte/Scienza – the development of the balance between science and art, logic and imagination. “Whole-brain” thinking. Where science reaches its limit, let art take the lead… Let your imagination play a role in your health and healing! *see Gelb’s How to Think Like Leonardo Da Vinci
